Preparations have been completed and all is set for the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) one day horserace meet in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Business entity and racing stables set for today at the clubs’ entity Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice.
The event, which is dubbed the New Year’s “Sweet Stakes” horserace meet, will see the animals competing in seven keenly anticipated races as they thrown down the gauntlet against each other for cash and trophies totaling close to $10M. Over 80 horses have entered to participate in the day’s meet.
The PMTC track, which is known for its resilience, is in excellent shape and all the major stables with the best horses have entered to participate in what is expected to be a riveting day of racing.
The feature event is for horses classified D1 and Lower for a hefty first prize taking of $1 million and trophy over 1500M.
The race for Three-Year-Old Guyana and West Indies bred horses has a winning pocket of $600,000 over 1200M. There is a race for Four-Year-old animals bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies also over 1500M for a top prize of $500,000 and trophy.
The horses classified E1 and lower will also be racing for a first prize of $500,000 and trophy also over 1200M. The animals classified G1 and Lower has at stake a top prize of $400,000 and trophy to aim for in another 1200M event.
The ‘I’ and Lower race goes over 1000meters for a winning take of $250,000.
The final event is for animals classified J and Lower over 1200 M for a $200,000 first prize and trophy.
The race is being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA). Race time is 12:30hrs.
