The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has apologised for outages experienced in a number of areas over the past few days.
On the Essequibo Coast, restoration of power to customers from Anna Regina to Supenaam following a planned and advertized seven and one half hour shutdown for line maintenance, was delayed by four and a half hours.
“The delay resulted from difficulties experienced in the wake of an upgrade of the control circuit of the No 2 Wartsila unit. Installation of the new components was completed during the planned outage by a Wartsila technician but due to problems in achieving synchronization of the two units at the Station, the return of the No 2 to service was delayed.”
According to GPL, yesterday, in East Berbice, a broken pole aback of Fyrish resulted in consumers supplied by the F3 feeder experiencing varying periods of power outage. While the incident occurred at 01:08, the fault was not located until 06:45 when it was isolated and power restored to communities from No. 19 Village to Albion.
“Consumers at Fyrish being supplied by the affected branch circuit were without electricity until 12:45 when repairs were completed.”
Meanwhile, on the West Coast Demerara, several communities supplied by the Edinburgh substation were without power on February 12th from 22:47 hrs.
“Encroachment of vegetation onto the 69 KV transmission line between Vreed-en-Hoop and Edinburgh substations caused the latter to be out of service until 11:55 on February 13.” However, alternative arrangements were made to restore power from Windsor Forest to Edinburgh, then Edinburgh to Zeelugt by 00:25 and 02:38 respectively.
Electricity supply for residents from Zeelugt to Lookout was restored at 12:35 on February 13th.
