– cops detain biker
Popular auto dealer Deokaran Sanasie, called ‘Ram’, was shot in the chest at around 18:30 hrs yesterday in the vicinity of Light and Fourth Street, Alberttown, by a gunman who escaped with an accomplice on a CG motorcycle.
He has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital, and a close relative described his condition as stable.
The 58-year-old Sanasie owns Ram’s Auto Sales, which is located a short distance from the area where the shooting occurred. A senior police official told Kaieteur News that a suspect has been detained and a CG motorcycle impounded. Investigators were last night hunting for another suspect.
Kaieteur News understands that Sanasie, of Lot 129 Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara, was sitting outside a hardware store when two men on a CG motorcycle suddenly stopped at the Light and Fourth Street intersection. One of the men then approached Sanasie and shot him.
A security guard told Kaieteur News that he heard two gunshots and then saw Sanasie clutching at his chest. He said that persons in the area took the wounded man to a private hospital.
Sanasie’s wife, Patsy Sanasie, told Kaieteur News that she was driving at around 18:30 hrs when she received a call from her husband. “He said that he had been shot and was in the hospital,” she said that her husband was in a stable condition and was able to speak.
It is unclear whether Sanasie was involved in any dispute with anyone.
