The Princess Fun City Entertainment Centre, situated in the Princess Hotel at Providence, East Bank Demerara, was abuzz with pure exciting activities yesterday as school-aged children took advantage of the many games at their disposal.
In fact yesterday marked the first day of a two-month long collaboration with the Entertainment Centre and schools across the country which is expected to see nursery, primary and secondary level children being able to indulge in entertainment of a modern nature.
According to Marketing Manager of the Entertainment Centre, Ali Williams,
the venture represents a school-tour programme which is designed to offer to children, some of whom are in fact less fortunate, the privilege of gaining access to the facility.
“This is actually something that management prides itself on doing…management loves doing things like these; it is about the children, children who may never be able to go and sit in a theatre and watch a movie…this is something we have been doing for a while and will continue to do so,” said Williams.
Already some 61 schools have signalled their intent to participate in the school tour programme, Williams disclosed yesterday. She explained that the intent is to accommodate three schools per day to have access to the more than 80 games ranging from 7D cinema, 3D graphics, dancing, street-fighting, bowling and racing among several other stimulating activities.
The first to gain entry to the facility yesterday were students from the Houston Secondary School, who arrived at the Entertainment Centre in time to be treated from 09:00 hours. They amounted to about 250, and did not fail to flock every fun area of the entertainment centre until 11:00 hours.
By this time another expectant group, of more than 100 children from the Latchmansingh Primary School of West Coast Berbice, was ready to assume their place. Their fun would continue until around 13:00 hours.
But the Entertainment Centre’s staff certainly had their work cut-out for them as they were soon greeted by another eager bunch from the Kuru Kururu Primary school, who wasted no time in getting busy with the various intriguing games. The latter group was 75 pupils strong.
Each school’s contingent was escorted by teachers, and in some cases parents, who also got a chance to participate in the excitement. Most of the students yesterday were first-time visitors to the Entertainment Centre.
According to Williams, although arrangements have already been made for several schools to visit the Entertainment Centre, she is optimistic that others from far-flung regions will also get on board the “school tour’ programme which is being offered at no cost.
“Our desire is to create an experience where children, teachers, schools, parents, clubs and businesses will share memorable moments and create experiences that will last a lifetime,” the Marketing Manager said, while disclosing that tours will continue daily.
