A young man, who mugged a man and stole his cellular phone and a pair of spectacles while the victim was in the heart of the city some time last year, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Nicolas Anthony Smith (no address given), accosted, choked and severely thrashed Jomal McDonald before he grabbed and made off with the victim’s belongings on August 26, in the city.
McDonald was reportedly walking along Camp and Middle Streets, Georgetown, when Smith and three others attacked him, relieved him of the items worth $115,000 and ran away. The matter was reported and subsequent investigations led to Smith’s arrest.
Two days later, Smith was remanded by Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The matter, however, was tried by Magistrate Ann McLennan and prosecuted by Corporal Deniro Jones.
The Prosecution managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused was guilty of the crime and as such Smith was sentenced to prison.
