The 10th edition of the Busta Champion of Champions cricket competition in Berbice will bowl off on Saturday at four venues across the Ancient County showcasing several promising players.
The organizers are expecting some exciting matches given the fact that Guyana’s NAGICO Super 50 team consists of the top stars from Berbice and some other players plying their trade in Trinidad which paves the way for many young and promising Under-19 players to step up to the plate in this first division tournament.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets will play host to Upper Corentyne at the Area ‘H’ Ground and in the absence of Test player Assad Fudadin, Captain Royston Crandon and Rajiv Ivan, the team will be led by former national player Delbert Hicks, National Under-19 Captain Shawn Pereira, Khemraj Mahadeo, Eon Hooper, Clinton Pestano, Jason Sinclair, Shailendra Shameer and National Under-19 wicketkeeper Akshay Homraj.
Upper Corentyne’s challenge will depend heavily on Somdat Singh, Deoprakash Ramdat, Fiaz Mohamed and Omkesh Kumar if they have any chance to create an upset against the very strong host team.
At the Albion Ground, the home team’s challenge would be led by the hard hitting Jonathan Foo and former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon. They’ll be supported by promising youth players Veerapen Permaul, Balchan Baldeo, Sharaz Ramcharran, David Latchya and Matthew Harilall.
The Port Mourant vs Bermine clash promises to be a thriller at the historic Port Mourant Ground. The young Bermine side features Hakeem Hinds, Romario Shepherd, Damon Vantull, Keon De Jesus, Joemal La Fleur and the hard hitting Treison Bynoe.
Port Mourant will depend heavily on Yogendra Harrinarine, Andrew Lyght Jr., Robert Moore, Joshua Ramsammy and Winston Rose.
At the Young Warriors Cricket Ground, the home team would be wary of a determined and youthful Blairmont side. Spearheading Young Warriors in the absence of West Indies Under-19 opener Shimron Hetmyer would be Linden Austin, Kevin Ramdeen, Balram Samaroo, Anil Beharry, Huburn Evans, Kassim Khan, Suresh Dhanai and Ishwar Singh.
While Blairmont are referred to as the underdogs they cannot be taken for granted with players the caliber of Deveshwari Prashad, Kevon Jawahir, Nick Ramsaroop, Avishkar Seecharranl, Karamand Bissoondial and Shameer Baksh.
All matches will bowl off at 09:30hrs and all teams are asked to report to the different venues half hour before the scheduled commencement. The winner of this tournament is guaranteed $100,000 and the beautiful Busta champion’s trophy.
