Regional Cricketer and Cricketer of the year to receive substantial awards
By Franklin Wilson
The encouragement to be very competitive in every facet of the game continues to be adequately recognised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sport Club (RHTY&SC) which has planned, along with the support of Travel Span and Mohamed’s Enterprise to ensure that the hard work of their members during the year would not go unnoticed.
To this end, RHTY&SC in association with Travel Span has decided that the Regional Cricketer of the Year at the Club will be rewarded with a return ticket to the USA. The ticket, valued at $150,000 will be presented to the best RHTY&SC player who represents Guyana and the West Indies. In contention would be Assad Fudadin and Shemaine Campbell.
The club is hoping that similar prizes would be awarded to local Cricketer of the Year and the Female Player of the Year.
Hilbert Foster, Club Secretary/CEO expressed delight in having Travel Span back on board with the club, noting that it is their wish that the partnership would grow stronger with time.
In association with Mr. Nazar Mohamed and Mohamed’s Enterprise, the Cricketer of the Year would receive a cash prize of $200,000 as a part of a package that is worth $500,000. Foster indicated that Mr. Mohamed, over the years has been very kind to the club and would have on many occasions stated that he is very impressed with the unbelievable work they are doing to touch and change lives.
Among the players who will be in contention for the Cricketer of the Year award are Jason Sinclair, Royston Crandon and Shemaine Campbell. Performance on the field of play would not be the only criteria for winning this award.
Personal discipline, commitment to the club, involvement in club activities and the role model status of the individual are all going to be taken into consideration.
Some Three Million dollars will be distributed in prizes at the awards ceremony, the 24th edition which will be held on April 27. A total of 42 awards would be handed out but special emphasis would be placed on the runner-up, junior, disciplined, most promising, most committed and female players of the year.
Some of the other prizes that would be handed out are: one year’s free supply of cable television, visits to local resorts, cell phones, jewelry, electronic equipment, educational materials, cycles and one major surprise gift that would be announced at the ceremony.
The representatives of Travel Span and Mohamed’s Enterprise expressed pleasure in being partners with the RHTY&SC in recognising and rewarding the sacrifices of the players during the year.
They both pledged continued support for the work of the club. Foster conveyed gratitude to both Travel Span and Mohamed’s Enterprise for the confidence they continue to show in the club while promising that excellence would continue to be their watch word.
Foster informed that recognition of their heroes is paramount. The contributions of the corporate community are also recognized by the club at Award Ceremonies.
