The Guyana Volleyball Federation –organised Extravaganza, which was held to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of outgoing President Lenox Shuffler, was deemed a success according to feedback received from representatives of clubs that participated in the occasion.

Shuffler, who has been at the helm of the organisation for over a decade, told Kaieteur Sport on Sunday evening shortly after the conclusion of the day’s activities that he has handed over the baton to Colonel John Flores (Maritime) of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on February 5 and the move found favour with the current GVF executive as well as the Georgetown Volleyball and Berbice Volleyball Associations.
The long serving President said he had endorsed Flores due to his vast knowledge of the sport both as a player and administrator, adding that he is someone that is well liked by most within the fraternity.
According to Shuffler, Flores will get a full taste of being Guyana’s representative at the upcoming CSV Congress which is scheduled to be staged in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil commencing from February 19, but before that Flores will have to vie for the Presidency of the Federation at its Annual General Meeting slated for February 15, at Camp Ayanganna.
Meanwhile, over ten teams participated in Sunday’s competition with the feature clashes occurring between the GDF, Young Achievers and Port Mourant Training Centre.
Most of the teams had at least two representatives, while Park Rangers also fielded a unit.
