– says sleuths will apprehend Trevor Rose’s killers
Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell has commended his ranks from the Force’s ‘A’ Division for their diligence that has led to them solving a number of high-profile murders in recent months.
Some of the cases were solved after months of dogged investigation, and this has not gone unnoticed by the Top Cop, who predicts that his sleuths will also apprehend the killers of designer Trevor Rose, who was gunned down in Eccles, East Bank Demerara last month.
“They have been doing good work. ‘A’ Division has been doing good work and they will solve the (Trevor) Rose murder.”
In two cases, police reportedly used telephone records to track their suspects.
It took the detectives six months to apprehend and charge one suspect.
In May 28, 2013, the body of a 26-year-old man, with a wound to the throat, was found in a hut at an East Bank Demerara location. Police received information that that the victim was to have married a young woman who had recently severed a relationship with another man. It was alleged that the former boyfriend had confronted his alleged rival over the affair.
Police eventually detained the suspect, who provided an alibi for his whereabouts at the time of the murder. He was eventually released.
Some six months later, A Division ranks apprehended and charged another man in connection with the same murder. It was alleged that the suspect had been using the slain man’s stolen cell phone, and that the murder was linked to a dispute that the victim and his employer had with another group of men.
The ranks are also being commended for solving the murders of Pegasus Taxi Service driver Rudrinauth Jeeboo and 30-year-old Beterwagting, East Coast Demerara taxi driver Raphael Campbell.
Jeeboo’s body, which bore marks of violence, was found on Saturday, December 28 in Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, while Campbell, who had been shot to the head, was found at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
The following day, police allegedly apprehended two youths on the Soesdyke/Linden highway with Campbell’s vehicle.
Shawn Edinboro, a 21-year-old ex-policeman; Sean Collins, 17, and Michael Bishop, 17, were subsequently charged with Campbell’s demise.
Police also subsequently charged Lorenzo Forde, 18 of Charlestown with Jeeboo’s murder.
The Court was told that Jeboo’s cellular phone which was stolen was still being used. The Prosecutor stated that after being apprehended, the accused gave police a confession statement in the presence of his aunt. According to
the prosecutor, the accused also told police that two other persons were involved in Jeeboo’s murder.
Meanwhile, Bertram Taylor, the husband of Agricola housewife Donna Taylor, has also expressed gratitude to the Guyana Police Force for their work on the case.
Taylor, 55, was found murdered in her backyard in January 26, while her guest, UK-based Samantha Sabat, was found lying unconscious in the front yard.
Abiola Jacobs, a 22-year-old Guyana Defence Force private, has been charged with Taylor’s murder.
Meanwhile, police are said to be looking for two know suspects in connection with the murder of 33-year-old fashion designer Trevor Rose, who was gunned down on January 26 in Eccles.
Rose, a 33-year-old father of eight, was shot about six times while travelling in the back seat of a car with the mother of one of his children, Latoya Towler, who was also struck once in the buttocks.
The driver of the car, Troy Nieunkerk, who is an accountant at the Ministry of Home Affairs and a part time taxi driver, was also shot in the left shoulder.
Police said that Rose appeared to be the gunman’s main target and that a .45 caliber weapon was used in the execution.
