– Amidst operational concerns
Amidst concerns regarding the operations of the National Cultural Centre, (NCC), organizers of the famed local theatrical production “Link Show,” have announced their decision to move the event to Parc Rayne, Rahaman’s Park Houston.
The announcement was made public yesterday, by coordinators of the show, during a brief press conference at the new venue.
The show’s producer, Gem Madhoo Nascimento of GEMS Theater Productions explained that the move to Parc Rayne stemmed from constant procedural challenges faced at the NCC.
“The National Cultural Centre has some difficulties with its lighting and air conditioning systems and the quality of the sound system continues to be a sore point. It keeps on attracting negative comments from the public.”
“We cannot have customers paying their hard earned money for tickets and then are unable to enjoy a show because they cannot hear or because they are dripping with sweat, since the place is too hot!” Nascimento exclaimed.
“The production has also suffered because the technical staff is not doing their jobs,” she added.
“Lights are turned off or on at the wrong time ruining a scene in spite of lighting scripts provided by the production team. This has been happening for years, and we had discussions with the administrative team of the Cultural Centre and raised our concerns, but nothing has changed.”
“The dress code in effect has posed additional problems for our audience… every night patrons have to be hassled by a ‘dress code rule for a theatre that cannot offer a comfortable atmosphere for them to enjoy the show.”
“We believe that Parc Rayne is a more suitable and relaxed setting to host our thirtieth production.”Mrs. Nascimento told reporters of the show which opened at the National Cultural Centre, more than two decades ago.
“We have done a series of shows there… I think it’s time to move.”
In brief comments, Director of Parc Rayne, Ray Rahaman noted that the company is proud to contribute to Guyana’s cultural and entertainment sectors.
“As Directors we travel quite often and experience quality entertainment, we feel that it is our duty to bring this sort of amusement to Guyana. We see no reason why we can’t assist in the development … While this show is something new to Parc Rayne; we have done a series of weddings here, promoting wedding tourism.” Rahaman added.
Meanwhile, Director of Link Show, Ron Robinson promises that this year‘s show will feature “the same hilarity, satire and high level of acting as in previous years.”
“Parc Rayne promises a more intimate setting, a comfortable open air and relaxed seating for 1,200 persons and secured parking accommodation.”
“Patrons will be allowed to snack while they watch the show. Food and drinks will be on sale at the location.”
Link Show 30 will commence on February, 20th with a gala cocktail event preceding the production.
In celebration of the show’s anniversary, members of the audience will receive fabulous give-a- ways.
According to the production team , patrons will receive prizes such as jewelry, compliments of Kings Jewelry world, meal vouchers from Germans Restaurant , and shopping vouchers from Nigel’s and Bounty supermarkets, as well as a trip to Arrowpoint Nature resort.
The show will run for four nights.
