Murder accused Charles Albert, called “Charles Greaves’, 52, of 56 Princetown, Corriverton, Corentyne, who allegedly murdered his daughter just over two years ago by beating her to death, cannot be tried at this time.
Those were the findings of Psychiatrist Dr. Maida Creajah on Friday before Justice Diana Insanally and a mixed jury in the Berbice High Court.
Albert is indicted for the brutal killing of his daughter, Rowletta Onica Greaves, 32, on December 12, 2011 following a misunderstanding between the two at his aunt’s home at Princetown.
After his trial was aborted on the first occasion because he could not find a third lawyer who would take his case after the first two pulled out following his indifferent behavior.
A psychiatric evaluation was ordered to determine if he is fit to stand trial. Psychiatrist Dr. Maida Creajah stated that she has been evaluating the accused for the past three years and in her diagnosis he is unsuitable to stand trial at this time.
He is not sure why he is in prison, she said; that he is there on a holiday. He exhibits behaviour of Grandeur (as if he is wealthy); he does not understand the concept of a trial, she said.
The doctor stated that the accused, at times, will be very quiet, but on other occasions he is very loud. She stated that he should be given his medication and should be evaluated again in three months.
Justice Insanally then ordered that the accused be returned to the Prison and that he be given his treatment while incarcerated until he is evaluated again.
