Murder accused Charles Albert called Charles Greaves, 52, of Lot 56 Princetown, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice ,will know today if he is fit to stand trial at this time in the Berbice High Court. This is after his first trial was aborted because he could not find a third lawyer who would take his case after the first two withdrew. Psychiatrist Dr. Maida Creajah is expected to be present in court and give a result of her evaluation of the accused. In court yesterday, a mixed jury was sworn in before Justice Diana Insanally following which the matter was adjourned to today, pending the psychiatric evaluation.
Albert is accused of brutally killing his daughter Rowletta Onica Greaves, 32, on December 12, 2011, following a misunderstanding between the two at his aunt’s house.
Reports had stated that on the day in question the man who lived at his aunt, and his daughter who lived of Lot 34 Scottsburg, Corriverton, had a heated argument for most of the day which ended in a violent exchange which resulted in the daughter’s death.
The murder had allegedly taken place while Rowletta Greaves was visiting the elderly woman’s home to help with her chores.
It was revealed that Charles Greaves was discharged as a member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) over 25 years ago for being mentally unfit for duty. Relatives had stated that he had been using illegal drugs since and would usually “trip out” from time to time.
