Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shalimar Ali-Hack confirmed yesterday that the file pertaining to an 18-year-old waitress who claimed sexual assault by her former employer at the Princess Hotel, is currently with her Chambers.
The DPP told Kaieteur News that the matter is being looked at, but this newspaper was unable to get further clarification on allegations made by the teen about advice reportedly given to her by a staffer of the entity.
The sexual assault matter was brought to life after the teen, her sibling and father held a press conference to highlight what they said was the failure of the system in ensuring justice for the young lady. The teen told the media earlier this week that while employed at the Princess Hotel, she was sexually assaulted by a senior official.
She claimed that the incident occurred around 15:30 hrs on Saturday January 11, last. The teen and her family claimed that she was advised by the secretary to the DPP that there isn’t enough evidence for her case to stand up in Court.
The DPP Chambers stated in a follow-up statement that “at no time did the officer who met with (the woman) advise her not to go to Court.” The DPP Chambers then advised that it had the file and the matter was being given due attention.
The Princess Hotel and Casino Guyana establishment which is headed by the Georgetown Investment and Management Services Inc. (GIMS Inc) categorically denied all claims of sexual assault on the teen.
The establishment expressed alarm over the teen’s public statements and has threatened legal action, while highlighting that they have fully cooperated with authorities on the matter.
