Dear Editor,
My letter to the Editor on Sunday specifically addressed some salient points regarding the governance of cricket in Georgetown which is headed by former Test cricketer, Roger Harper.
One writer who replied to my letter has, once again, proven the adage that if you do not have a message or a valid response to the substance of someone’s argument, just ignore the substantive issues and proceed to personally attack the messenger.
He opened by singing some praises of Mr. Harper’s leadership, then dedicated the remainder his letter to, firstly, associating me with Mr. Sanasie then launching into some completely baseless and unwarranted attacks on Mr. Sanasie. He totally ignored the real issues in my letter that dealt with Harper’s ineptitude for the second time in four years of leading his Association into a constitutional crisis. Is this exemplary leadership? I think not.
I am very proud to say that I do know Mr. Sanasie very well and have the utmost of respect for him as a person and as a competent and efficient cricket administrator who has served at various levels in cricket administration up to the WICB level.
Mr. Sanasie performs his functions as a volunteer and for those who know this gentleman, even cursorily, can attest to the fact that he is a very blunt and straightforward individual who has always stood up for his principles and what he believes in.
He has no relatives playing the game nor does he look forward for handouts from the game and makes a lot of personal sacrifices to ensure that cricket is being developed in this country against all of the challenges made by a few disgruntled former administrators. We need more committed and dedicated administrators like Mr. Sanasie.
I would urge Mr. Harper and his cohorts to respond to the substance of my article. My advice to him would be for him to seek legal advice to determine the legality of the Georgetown Cricket Association ever since he did not hold the AGM of that Association when it was constitutionally due in January 2014.
It is my considered view that since January 31, 2014 passed; the existence of the Executive Committee Georgetown Cricket Association headed by Mr. Roger Harper ceased to exist. That is the crux of my argument in my letter last Sunday and I would urge all future responses stick to the facts and not to be sidetracked by irrelevant matters.
My other point related to the hypocrisy of Mr. Harper in suing other entities to stop them from holding their AGMs in a constitutional manner whilst he cannot do the same for his own Association. This smacks of gross incompetence and hypocrisy. I dare Mr. Harper to respond to me!
