One of Guyana’s most long serving administrators and committed servant in the volleyball realms, Lennox Shuffler has achieved yet another great milestone.
Yesterday the elder statesman celebrated his 75th birth anniversary and to show appreciation to this stalwart, the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), of which Shuffler is still President, would be hosting the fourth annual Lennie Shuffler birthday festival set for the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.
The GVF Executive Committee has informed that all systems are in place for a grand day of volleyball which will serve off at 09:00hrs. They have promised that it will be a memorable day.
This one of a kind festival is open to all existing and emerging third-division teams across Guyana and will feature both male and female teams. There will also be an exhibition match between the reigning volleyball champs of Region 4 and the fast rising Guyana Defence Force team.
This initiative is organised to show gratitude while highlighting Shuffler’s unwavering sportsmanship and dedication to the sport.
Over the years, the event has attracted participants from other sporting disciplines including hockey players who also performed admirably. The same approach will be undertaken this year.
Shuffler, who has been at the helm of the sport for many years, was introduced to the game at the tender age of thirteen (13) and ever since then he has elevated himself going on to become a national player and then Captain of the Guyana National team.
It has now been sixty-two (62) years Shuffler would have been involved in the sport, first as a player and then as an administrator. He is now serving his third and final term as the President of the GVF and soon will be handing over the reins to his successor.
This year’s activity will be the last time this event will take place while he still holds office as President of the GVF but will continue to be an annual event. His philosophy of friendliness, team work, fair competition, peace and meaningful interactions is expected to be demonstrated during the festival.
