The Princess Hotel and Casino Guyana establishment which is headed by the Georgetown Investment and Management Services Inc (GIMS Inc) has in a press release categorically denied all claims of sexual assault of an employee, a waitress, by a “principal” of the Company and has expressed alarm over the recent press conference held by the alleged victim.
The Hotel expressed that at all times it has fully cooperated with ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) who the establishment said were “detailed” in their investigation of the alleged incident.
“The Princess Hotel has made available for interrogation by the said ranks all the employees, including managers, who were on duty on the said day, as well as provided video footage from closed circuit cameras installed on its property. At no time thereafter did the investigating ranks or any other rank of the Guyana Police Force make any further request for information from the Hotel.”
The Princess Hotel said that at no time were requests made by the police to interview the “principal” who the complaints were made against. The Hotel stated that “the principal is ordinarily resident outside of the jurisdiction of Guyana and visits Guyana sporadically for very short periods in furtherance of his business interests locally. This fact was made known to the investigating ranks upon their initial inquiry at the Hotel.”
The Hotel said that its principals would not violate the laws of Guyana and the establishment does all of its activities within the realm of the laws and stressed that it practices according to international human resources guidelines and “treats its employees with the highest of regard and dignity.”
The establishment further contends that at no time did it offer any reward or other consideration to the waitress “to induce her to neither withdraw the allegations made against its principal, nor has anyone been so authorized on its behalf.”
The Hotel said that it “has a strict policy on sexual harassment of its employees and has never received any reports of this nature from any employee” and expressed reservations with the comments made by the father of the girl who was allegedly assaulted with respect to what the establishment says were “threats made by the father of the virtual complainant to do harm to principals, employees and its property and intends to lodge a formal complaint with the Guyana Police Force.”
The establishment further said that it is not aware of the status of the investigations and is awaiting the outcome of the situation anxiously, but also expressed intentions to “institute legal proceedings to recover damages suffered to its reputation as a result of these unfounded allegations made against its principal, managers and by extension the entire hotel.
