DEAR EDITOR,
Back in December, I had cause to raise an issue that was hugely troubling to me.
During to a visit to the Princess Casino in December, my attention was drawn to one of the machines which had what appeared to be an image of Lord Shiva.
In a letter to the editor, I queried this issue asking the role of the Gaming Authority and whether its inspectors did not see. I had also called on Hindu community and the wider society at large to condemn this, as our country is known for its tolerance and respect for each other’s belief.
Recently, management, namely Mr. Mohair, the supervisor of the casino, made contact with me and during a tour of the facility indicated that they had removed the offensive machine and its image. They said that they were not aware that the image was offensive. They apologized.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management of the casino for taking steps to correct the problem. It goes to show that we can talk to each other and are mature enough to correct ourselves.
Indeed, a lesson for all Guyanese.
