A 14-year-old female student of a city school was yesterday brought before the court charged for allegedly stabbing one of her colleges on Wednesday last.
The third form student of Richard Ishmael Secondary School yesterday appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where an unlawful wounding charge was read to her.
The charge detailed that on January 29, at Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, she unlawfully and maliciously stabbed her colleague (also fourteen) with intent to maim or disfigure her.
However, the teen pleaded not guilty and later submitted an application for reasonable bail through her lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat.
Bail was subsequently granted in the sum of $75,000 and the teen is expected to make her second court appearance on February 21 at the said court.
The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital around 15:00hrs Wednesday, with a stab wound to the left cheek and lacerations on both hands, after she was “attacked” by a fellow female student.
According to the victim, she was standing on Woolford Avenue with a few friends, preparing to go home, when the accused appeared “out of nowhere” and proceeded to hit and stab her.
After the stabbing, the accused reportedly fled the scene in a minibus, after which the injured girl was taken to see the school’s Headmistress who subsequently drove her to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
A report was subsequently made and the teenager was arrested and charged with the offence.
