The eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Sunday last extended a helping hand to their counterparts of the newly formed Fyrish Strikers Cricket Club and the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association.
The Fyrish Strikers club received a box of cricket balls, a bat, score book, wicket keeping pad and wicket keeping gloves. The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association requested and was granted a complete set of cricket stumps.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTY&SC is always willing to assist fellow cricket clubs once funds are available as it strongly believes in assisting others to reach the high level it {RHTY&SC} has reached.
The main objective is to assist clubs to get youths to fulfill their potential on the field and to promote sports as a safe alternative to youths from a life of drugs and crime. Foster urged the newly formed Fyrish Strikers Club to be disciplined at all times, to invest in youths and to remain united in good and bad times.
The long standing cricket administrator also praised the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association for its excellent stewardship of the game in their district and described them as a perfect example of productive and visionary leadership.
The RHTY&SC since 1995 has assisted over 100 cricket clubs and schools with gears and has also donated sports equipment to other clubs which play circle tennis, chess, table tennis, football, basketball, volleyball as well as indoor games.
Representatives of both organisations expressed their gratitude to the RHTY&SC cricket teams for their assistance and pledged to set high standards on the field of play. They also wished the young players more success in the future.
The teams making the donation are the RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos and Gadgets Under-21 under the Cricket Development Programmes initiative.
