Three police ranks accused of sodomising a 16year-old boy at the Stabroek Market Mobile Outpost were placed under close arrest yesterday, even as close relatives of the alleged victim expressed skepticism about his story.
The ranks were removed from the outpost pending the outcome of an investigation that is being conducted by the police and Child Protection officials.
A senior police official told Kaieteur News on Tuesday that the alleged victim was medically examined at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and was also interviewed by a social worker and a police rank. He was released into the care of a female relative yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that social workers are familiar with the teen, who has a long history of delinquency and is also a commercial sex worker.
The teen sparked off an investigation on Tuesday after alleging that three police ranks sodomised him at the Stabroek Market Police Outpost at around 21:00 last Sunday night.
According to the police official, the ‘victim’ claimed that one of the perpetrators has a gold tooth and was dressed in uniform at the time, while the other ranks were in uniform.
But the teen’s close relatives have repeatedly expressed the view that he is being less than truthful. At least two relatives claimed that the lad has a habit of making false accusations.
They said that the ‘victim’ has been wandering the streets from an early age and is known by the name ‘Beyonce’.
His mother is said to be ill, while his father is serving a life sentence for murder. Kaieteur News was told that the boy was taken in by relatives but began wandering the streets and soliciting sex.
“He would be at his uncle’s home in man clothes and on the road he would wear girl clothes and wigs,” one relative said. The relative added that the teen would also steal female clothing and committed other acts of theft.
Relatives also said that the ‘victim’ was incarcerated at the ‘boy’s school’ (New Opportunity Corps), where his sexual acts with males escalated. He was recently released from that Institution.
One relative described the ‘victim’ as someone who “would bring police and say you do him something,” while speaking about the teen’s alleged habit of making false allegations against individuals.
Some vendors who ply their trade near the Stabroek Market Outpost said that they neither saw nor heard anything unusual on the night of the alleged assault.
