The Christmas season is over and after a lengthy rest to facilitate the period of celebrations race walkers will commence their itinerary for the fiscal year when the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) presents a 10K junior race walk around the Soesdyke community, Sunday February 2 next.
The race will be the first in a series of activities to commemorate the death of founder/coordinator, Olga Harry, who passed away one year ago. Walkers will convene at the Soesdyke Assembly of God Church, Back Road Soesdyke and proceed along the periphery of the village and back to its place of origin.
Activities continue one week later, Sunday February 9, with the Olga Harry Open Memorial Race walk, this time from the Barama Plywood Factory, Land of Canaan, EBD, to the Soesdyke Primary School for the finish.
There will also be a candlelight service at the Club’s Back Road headquarters on February 10 followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the graveside of the deceased, Kuru Kururu Cemetery. Later on that day, at 17:00hrs, CS&TC officials will convene at the club’s headquarters to bestow a posthumous award of the late PRO.
Organisers have also said that they will be planning several activities in line with the Masramani celebrations.
