Investigators have questioned three security guards who were on duty Wednesday night when burglars entered the Carnegie School of Home Economics located on High and D’Urban Streets, Georgetown, and stole a quantity of groceries, two computer monitors and a laptop.
The discovery of the break and enter was made by a female guard around 01:00hrs yesterday.
Kaieteur News was told that the intruder(s) most likely concealed themselves in the building during the afternoon class on Wednesday and broke their way out with tools belonging to the institution.
The suspects allegedly ransacked the office of the Head Mistress, Deputy Head Mistress, the 80th Anniversary Secretariat’s office and the General Office.
This newspaper was told that the stolen laptop was being used by the office assistant, who is also a computer technician.
Fingers are now being pointed at a staffer who sources say knows the building “inside, out.” Kaieteur News was also informed that the “suspect” was spotted in the area hours after the discovery was made.
The Carnegie School of Home Economics is secured by MMC Security Service alarms, but another security firm provides three guards during the night and two during the day.
“When the girl was closing up the place, she heard a noise but she didn’t see anyone. The alarm went off, too, and the guards from MMC came and inspect the place and they left after they didn’t see anyone,” a source said.
When contacted yesterday, the Principal of the institution, Penelope Harris, could only say that the police visited the school and took fingerprints. She also added that the investigators have questioned the security guards who were guarding the property when the incident occurred.
