Suspect held in Pegasus taxi driver’s murder
Police are hoping that the arrest of a 36-year-old man may help them solve the murder of Pegasus Taxi Service driver Rudrinauth Jeeboo, whose battered body was found in a refuse heap in Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, almost a month ago.
The suspect, who is known as ‘Big Jaw’, was detained about two days ago, and police are said to be checking his mobile phone as well as his fingerprints to ascertain if they can link him to the unsolved case.
Taxi driver, Rudrinauth Jeeboo
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect lives a short distance from the area where police recovered Jeeboo’s car. Police said that they had been trying to locate the now detained man for some time, in an effort to question him about the taxi driver’s demise. The suspect is said to have had previous brushes with the law. However, there is no indication that he fits the description of the man seen on a surveillance camera entering Jeeboo’s vehicle some hours before the murder.
Jeeboo, of 25 Delph and Craig Streets, Campbellville, was found dead on December 28. A post mortem revealed that he had suffered blunt trauma to the head. His vehicle, minus the number plates and taxi logo, was recovered at the back of Guyhoc Gardens.
There was no sign of blood in his car and investigators conclude that the victim was attacked outside the vehicle.
Surveillance tapes gleaned from security cameras at the Pegasus Hotel showed Jeeboo picking up a man and a woman, reportedly of African ancestry, in the hotel compound before driving off.
Detectives seem to believe that robbery was not the motive.
Jeeboo, said to be about 49, had worked with the Pegasus Taxi Service for about 20 years and his colleagues said that he was not in the habit of picking up strangers.
