The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) during 2014 will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee and has revealed that at least twenty competitions at all levels will be organised in its observance.
Yesterday, the board renewed its bond with the National Communication Network (NCN) for the sixth consecutive year for the hosting of the Inter Zone two-day Under-15 tournament. The launching took place at the NCN studio.
Four Zones will contest the tournament; West Berbice, New Amsterdam\Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne with the cutoff date of birth being September 1999. Players will be selected for respective teams based on their performances in the club tournament.
New Amsterdam\Canje will clash with West Berbice at Cumberland and Lower Corentyne will face Upper Corentyne at the Area ‘H’ ground. The winners will battle in the final at a venue to be named while the losing teams will play for the third place.
The competition will be used to select Berbice’ Under-15 team for the Inter County tournament. The winner will pocket a trophy and $50,000 while the other teams will receive monetary prizes. The board expressed gratitude to the management and staff of NCN giving the assurance that the competition will be well organized.
Chief Executive Officer (ag) of NCN, Michael Gordon, congratulated the BCB on their Diamond Jubilee adding that he is impressed with the degree of management executed by the board over the years.
Gordon indicated that they are honored to be associated with the BCB. “We have a social obligation which is to give back to the society and are happy to partner with the BCB for this tournament which has produced a number of West Indies players. We want to ensure that events of this nature have a positive impact on the lives of the youths”, said Gordon. (Zaheer Mohamed)
