senior staffers of the two companies.
The deal will see both organizations strengthening their partnership over the next three years. GT&T is set to utilize $3 million to sponsor THAG programmes and events each year.
In return, brand and slogans of GT&T will be displayed at international tourist activities in attendance by members of THAG. Nascimento explained that the new contract will support the general operation of THAG.
“Without this kind of corporate sponsorship, the operation could not have survived…the sponsorship will support our training programme, and marketing efforts done both locally and overseas. It will also contribute our attendance of international events such as the world tourism conference,” Head of the organization added.
Nascimento explained that the telephone company has supported the work of THAG in the past but this is its largest investment in the work of the tourism body.
The support is necessary to sustain the staff and general operation of THAG.
THAG is an umbrella body of all Tourism related entities in Guyana. Members include hoteliers, resort owners, tour operators, travel agents, restaurants, jewellery and craft shops and transportation services among others. THAG is also a member of the Caribbean Hotel Association.
Over the years, there has been significant partnership between the two companies towards the development of the local tourism industry.
Most recently the telephone company has expended its services to the Rupununi areas of Guyana, which is effective towards the improvement of community based tourism.
