The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has planned a national Amateur Goodwill tournament here from February 14-16. According to the president of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, invitations have been extended to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and St. Lucia and they have already received confirmation from Jamaica, while Barbados are unavailable.
He informed that they are still awaiting official response from the Twin Island Republic and St. Lucia which they are expected to receive by Tuesday. Ninvalle stated that Jamaica will field four boxers and two officials.
The president indicated that the tournament is being held to prepare the local boxers for the South American championships which will take place in Chile from March 13-18. Ninvalle said that the local boxers have already commenced training but will be encamped shortly.
Stephan Gouveia, Imran Khan, Bert Braithwaite, Dennis Thomas, Sephon Barton, Travis Fraser, Michael April, Diwani Lampkin, Junior Henry, Orin Bancroft, Dellon Charles, Stephon Nedd, Anndram Dharamraj, Theresa London (female), Dwon Thompson, Ron Smith, Desmond Marshall, Steven Chan, Markember Pierre and Eon Bancroft are some of the locals currently preparing for the event.
The Jamaican team reads; Patrick Sahadeo (Lightweight), Anthony Clarke (Light Welterweight), Kestna Davis (Welterweight) and Michael Gardner (Middleweight). Carl Grant (head coach) and Godfrey Collins (coach).
