Barama Company Limited in collaboration, along with other stakeholders, has raised $2M (US$10,000) for the Typhoon Haiyan victims which devastated parts of South East Asia, especially Philippines, on November 08.
Super typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, made history by being the strongest cyclone that ever visited the Philippines.
Barama, a plywood-making company, said it managed to raise the cash
over a month’s period and the amount was wired yesterday to the bank account of Philippine Red Cross. The monies will be used to “restore balance to the lives and homes ravaged by the natural calamity”.
In an invited comment, Head of Corporate Affairs, Mohindra Chand, said that the company felt a vested interest as part of its social policy to lend a hand and make a difference to the lives of the disaster’s victims mainly because of the growing Filipino population who is employed by the company.
With an estimated population of 25% of the company’s workforce being Filipino nationalities, “this was done in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the company and the forest sector. The Company wishes the Philippine Red Cross and other supportive groups sustained support and strength in their charitable efforts and also would like to thank all their stakeholders that made invaluable contributions towards this initiative.”
