Trouble seems brewing among the executives of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) after Vice President, Rawleston Adams, suddenly tendered his resignation which appears to have forced the General Secretary (GFF), Noel Adonis, to place the issue on the minutes when the GFF Congress gets underway this afternoon at the GFF Dadanawa Street, Section K Campbellville office.
Kaieteur Sport was informed through reliable sources, that Adams had written to the GFF hierarchy one week ago stating that he was no longer interested in serving in his elected post as 1st Vice President. Our source has also stated that several executive members are planning to table a no confidence motion against the GFF President, Christopher Matthias, which may come as early as today but it is unclear on what grounds this motion will be moved.
Details pertaining to Adams’ resignation are very scant and efforts to clear the issue proved unsuccessful after the principal, when contacted, confirmed that he had tendered his resignation about one week ago but did not wish to elaborate on the circumstances; he suggested that this reporter have dialogue with the GFF hierarchy.
When contacted, Mr Adonis confirmed that the Vice President did indeed resign but he (Adonis) was not at liberty to elaborate on the issue. “We have received Mr Adams’ letter and he did furnish us with reasons for his actions but I suggest that you speak with him concerning those reasons,” the General Secretary declared.
Mr Adonis debunked the view that today’s extraordinary general meeting was specifically convened to deal with the Adams’ resignation. “Our congress is scheduled to get underway today and since this issue arose we decided that it should form a part of the agenda,” he said. He also said that this afternoon’s forum will present an opportunity to ventilate the issue among a larger number of executives before a decision is made to temporarily appoint someone to the post until the next elections.
It’s been just under a year since the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Matthias defeated three other hopefuls, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, Alfred King and Ivan Persaud, to take over the reins of authority. Over that short period, Matthias’ style of leadership has been placed under severe scrutiny and several of the affiliates, including the principals of the K&S Entertainment group, have accused him of unfair and unilateral practices. Things have now reached a head.
