Clayton Lambert’s 151 is still the highest by a Guyanese at the regional one day level

Statistician Charwayne Walker notes that Clayton Lambert’s 151 against Barbados 1997 at Bourda is still the highest score by a Guyanese batsman at the Regional one day level. Strange enough Lambert’s feat is only bettered by Windward Islands Dawnley Joseph 155 scored against Bermuda.

The first Guyanese to record a century in Regional one day was Timur Mohamed, the flambouyant left hander who caressed the Jamaicans at Jarret’s Park with eight sixes and an equal amount of fours in compiling a gracious 104, the year was 1980.
Another left hander, the late Roy Federicks, emulated Mohamed by hitting a belligerent 119 against the Leeward Islands at the A.R.G during the 1980 Geddes Grant/Harrison line finals.
Monty Lynch became the next Guyanese Century Maker in Regional one day Cricket when he smashed a hurricane 129 against Marshall and company at the (Mecca) Kensington Oval in 1983.
The Pugnacious Lambert added his name to the list with a commanding unbeaten 111 against the Leeward Islands at Hampton Court Ground in Essequibo 1989. Former West Indies Captain Carl Llewellyn Hooper became the fifth Guyanese centurion in 1995. He carved his way to a classy 104 against the Leeward Islands at Blairmont Community Centre. Eight years after scoring his maiden regional one day hundred, Lambert fashioned his superb recording breaking knock 151 against Barbados (1997) in front of an appreciative home crowd.

Barbados at the Kaiser Sports Club in 1998 to add his name to the list. Three years later former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon cracked 103 at GCC Bourda against Antigua and Barbuda. In 2005 Ramnaresh Sarwan became the leading Guyanese Century maker when he cracked three magnificent hundreds. Playing against Barbados at the North Stars ground St. Lucy.
The elegant right hander scored (106) not out, before following up with 113 versus the Leeward Islands at the Windward Sports Ground. Against the same opposition, in the semifinals at Bourda, Sarwan managed to score 113 again.
In the final of the K.F.C Cup in 2005, Albion’s Sewnarine Chattergoon made a match winning (119) against a powerful Barbados line up. Two years later 2007, Royston Crandon of Rose Hall Town Sports Club became the first Guyanese to score a Regional one day Century on debut when he slammed 101 against the Windward Islands at the Tanteen ground in Grenada. Demerara Cricket Club’s, Travis Dowling, added his to the list with 119 against the Combined Campuses and Colleges at the Providence Stadium 2007.
Albion’s Narsingh Deonarine is the last Guyanese batsman to register a Regional one day century. Deonarine made a match winning 102 not out vs Barbados at Albion in 2009.
