Skill, Endurance and reliability are going to be the key components to give competitors that added advantage when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its Endurance Race Meet, the first event on its 2014 calendar, on Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Kaieteur Sport caught up with Afraz Allie, one of the competitors scheduled to
participate in the Meet and he boldly promised fans a day of exciting rivalry, adding that he is hoping to be among those battling for supremacy when the green light flashes to signal the start of the event.
Allie confirmed that he will be driving for Team Ramchand more familiarly known as ‘Team Wrecker’ and while he was unable to verify the model of the car he will be piloting, expressed optimism that it will be in excellent working order and very competitive.
He said Endurance racing is on the upswing and posited that even though it might not be able to rival circuit racing, it is growing increasingly popular within the racing community.
“You can see more and more teams now confirming participation and this is a clear indication that this segment of the sport is catching on,” Allie said.
Brian Ten-Pow and Shawn Seejattan have been among the dominant pairs in the event, but according to Allie drivers such as Syed Hassan, Shiraz and Shahab Roshandin, the Ali brothers of Team Fullworks, Mark Vieira, Aaron Bethune, Anand Ramchand and Adrian Fernandes, are all practiced and skilled drivers so predicting who will reign at the end of the day is proving to be very difficult.
Among the drivers and teams anticipated to participate are: Syed Hassan, Shiraz and Shahab Roshandin, Omar Dornellas and Christopher Young, Narindra and David Mangar, Sharima and Zafaar Khan, Amad Sammy and Team, Malcolm and Rohan Haripaul, Rameeze and Wazir Mohammed, Balram Ramdeo and Afo Harper, Motilall Deodass and Damon Singh, Arif and Reeaz Shaw, Mark Vieira and Roshan Ali, Anand Ramchand and Adrian Fernandes, Mohamed Ali and Anil Nala, Aaron Bethune and Anthony Boodhoo and Davin Panday.
