A 20-year-old mason who hails from Lot 134 Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, is now a remand prisoner after he made his first court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, indicted for armed robbery.
Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry read a charge of Robbery Under Arms to Wendell Austin which detailed that on January 4, at Longden Street, Georgetown while in the company of others and armed with a knife, he robbed Kishan Persaud of one Toshiba laptop computer, one BlackBerry Bold cellular phone, one silver band and one ring.
The prosecution said that the items which belonged to Persaud were valued at $216,000. However, Austin had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
