A Humanitarian at Heart & Deserves A National Award

Dear Editor,
Please allow me a space in your letter column to share with this nation and give my support towards a great son of this soil.
Over the past decades he gave his life towards the development of all human beings and his country. He stood up for all, no matter their status in life. He truly represents all and encourages many to make a difference in their lives and for their country. He lives with dignity, no matter what people say of him and push towards his cause on this earth. He was awarded by the Government of United States of America under the Obama administration for this commitment to humanitarian contribution to all and received many more awards locally and internationally. This man is truly a great human and Guyanese and he is no other than a son of the soil and belongs to Berbice, he is Dr. Verasammy Ramayya MP.
On December 22nd, 2013 I happened to visit this man’s home where he was continuing his humanitarian life by hosting an annual Christmas party for the Children and elderly of East Berbice. I was not that medically fit but I decided to take the trip and was shocked, as I entered his yard to see so many children from different walks of life and ages gathered together under his roof for Dr. Ramayya’s Annual Christmas Party.
Dr. Ramayya has shown this true love for humanitarian work, no matter of race, religion and status in life. He is a true Hindu devotee, but still care for the others no matter religion. At the corner of his yard is a small Hindu Temple, and outside decked with various Hindu religious pictures and one with his late wife (who, has, over the years supported his various humanitarian efforts and struggle for the people).
This party is just one of his ways of giving back to the society but for a man that lost his wife just about a year ago, it is really outstanding of him to continue this venture all alone, making sure that the decades old tradition continues so as to make his cause in life worth living and also to made this late wife being remembered at this time by the children and all others.
It’s outstanding to see a man put religion aside just to make others happy. He shows his real side and how we can have unity and care for each other no matter what. This strong Hindu Devotee makes the children feel cared for as he allowed Christian carols and hymns to be sung in his yard and also for prayers to be given by Christian Pastors. This doctor is a sound example for this nation.
Dr. Ramayya over the years has stood up against injustices to sugar workers and helped them fight for better wages and working conditions. He assisted many people who are being abused by the Guyana Police Force, and represents many that had issues with GPL and GWI. He shed light on the working conditions of our nurses and doctors. He visits many communities and highlights their problems. He is respected by Berbice for his fight against injustices towards our people.
This great humanitarian deserves to be awarded with a National Award for his outstanding service to this nation.
Let’s not put into consideration politics and reward a man that truly deserves to be awarded for his gigantic deeds, and that man is Dr. Verasammy Ramayya MP.
