New date to be announced
Despite all the preparations and precautions taken the inclement weather still had the final say as the planned end of year $11M horserace meet fixed for yesterday, Sunday 29th December, at the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) and jointly organised by the PMTC in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Businesses and horseracing entity and a number of Horse Owners, had to be cancelled at the last moment.
This is the second horserace meet planned for this week on the Corentyne that had to be called off at the last moment due to the inclement weather which continues to take its toll on outdoor activities in the country.
According to the organisers, over 100 horses had entered in what was expected to be a grand and exciting day of racing, but the continuous overnight rain which lasted way into the new day, put paid to all plans.
According to Coordinator Nazrudeen ‘Jumbo Jet’ Mohammed, things were looking purposeful until the day before race day, with all systems in place. The PMTC track which is known for its resilience was in excellent condition and was being graded and rolled constantly to keep it in the best of shape. A new day will be announced.
