Wanted man, Carlton Akeem Bourne, of Whim Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who was on the run for more than a year has been nabbed and remanded to jail on a charge of murder.
Bourne was wanted for questioning into the murder of businessman Winston Ragnauth. The victim was discovered dead on November 7, 2012.
Ragnauth, called ‘Tony’ of Lot 2 North Whim Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice was found with his throat slit at his home at Whim, Corentyne, after his grocery shop had been broken into.
Bourne on Tuesday appeared before Magistrate Rabindranath Singh at the Albion Magistrate court. He was not required to plead and will have to return to the Whim Magistrate’s Court on January 6, next, where the matter has been transferred to.
Another man, Elton Haynes, 23, a former policeman of Manchester, Corentyne Berbice was nabbed earlier in relation to the crime. At present, he is serving jail time on a charge of escaping from lawful custody.
Haynes was arrested and was in custody being questioned for the gruesome murder of Ragnauth when he jumped through a window, scaled the fence and escaped. He was recaptured after being shot and injured.
Haynes was a member of the Police Mounted and Canine Branch.
The case for the prosecution as presented by Sergeant Phillip Sheriff was that between Wednesday November 6 and November 7, last, while in company with others, Bourne murdered Winston Ragnauth.
The police had issued an arrest warrant for Bourne, who was nabbed last week at Agricola.
Ragnauth was robbed prior to his death and one of the bandits had served a jail term for the robbery.
