Fifteen non-violent inmates from the various prisons in Guyana were released
last week Monday, December 16, in time to spend the Christmas holidays with their families and friends. According to charity organization, Food For The Poor, the prisoners were confined because of their inability to pay the requisite fines, even though the amounts in some instances were very small.
The programme commenced in 2005 and takes place yearly in time for Easter and Christmas.
