Digicel wires in hefty last minute support, one change made
The horses have completed their training routines and ready to gallop with the jockeys prepared for fireworks at the Port Mourant Turf Club today when the club stages their Champion of Champions horserace meet. Over 85 horses are expected to take to the turf for the long awaited event in what promises to be an exhilarating day of horseracing which is the last for the club for this season.
With all systems in place, a bumper crowd is expected to swarm the PMTC arena for the day in the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf club and Sports Facilities and the Shariff Business Enterprise and Racing Stable jointly organised meet.
The PMTC, which is in the best of condition at the moment, is synonymous with its December meet where thousands of overseas Guyanese and visitors usually flock to enjoy their end of year horse racing extravaganza.
Seven action packed races are now on the card that brings together the best horses in Guyana with over $8.5 M in cash trophies and other incentives up for grabs. Telephone Giants Digicel is on board with hefty sponsorship for the event.
The feature A class race has an impressive lineup that features the best in the Country at the moment with reigning champion Score’s Even, two times Guyana Cup defending champion Elle’s Vision, 2012 champion Settle In Seattle, best groomed horse Grande De Roja, the overseas contingent of Rock Movie Star, Money in Return and Some Legend and seasoned campaigners Got To Go, Mission King, CP Got Even, Who is on the Case, Swing Easy, the Message and Country Armagh battling compliments of Banks DIH Limited for the hefty first prize of $1.2M in cash and trophy in what is expected to be a mouthwatering encounter.
With all the distances now 1200M affairs, upsets are very much possible during the day’s action.
The co-feature Three Year old derby for Guyana and West Indies Bred horses is expected to be close. With the two three year old races now combined as one, a ding dong battle is anticipated. It will once again see the renewed rivalry with the likes of Cat Messiah; It’s My Turn, Silent Night, She So Special, Monsoon, Gold Rush, Princess Alisha, Easy to win, Battle Hymn and Gold Princess in action. The race is an open affair for the hefty winnings of $600,000 and trophy.
The D and lower event with a first prize of $600,000 will see among them Swing Easy, Country Armagh, Treacle, Golden Reprise, Red and Lovely and Majestic battling.
The G1and lower class race will see the likes of Damascus Dream, Captain Crook, Bridal Stone Corner, War Craft; this Cat is Back, Rosetta, Ferry Landing and Wild Grinder also for a first prize of $300,000 and trophy.
Sunday Silence, Untouchable, Key for The Killer, Shooting Star, Release the Beef (Golden Key) and Triple among those entered in the race for Two Year old Guyana Bred and West Indies Bred maiden horse for a winner’s purse of $300,000.
The ‘I’ and lower race will have a top money of $200,000 and trophy with I want Revenge, Savion, Funny Side and Mary Ann among others in the running. The J and lower event have Smarty Light, Sango and Golden Reprise running for winning prize of $150,000 and trophy.

Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
