Leg spinner Devendra Bishoo, the leading wicket taker in the recently concluded Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)\Hand-in-Hand senior 4 day inter county tournament told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he wants to return to the senior West Indies team as early as possible.
Bishoo who took 25 wickets in the inter-county competition; helping Berbice to the title said he is happy with his performance. “I am happy that my bowling has return to where i want it to be. I am very comfortable and please that i played an important role in helping Berbice win the inter-county tournament”, added Bishoo.
Bishoo who took 40 test wickets from 11 matches with his best being 5-90 against Bangladesh and 20 wickets from 13 matches in ODI’s including 6-34 versus England as well as six scalps from four T\20 games with a best of 4-16 against Pakistan stated that he is working feverishly to improve his game and trains six times a week.
The leg spinner indicated that like most other cricketer he went through a bad patch. “I had a bad game; it was the same match where Sunil Narine took one wicket. My bowling fell down somewhat after i was dropped from the team, but i started to work harder and i was always confident that i will return with a bang”, he said.
Bishoo informed that he is also pleased with his batting which is always improving. Speaking about the inter-county competition Bishoo indicated that he had to lead from the front. “With the absence of Veerasammy Permaul, i had much more responsibility on my shoulders in the bowling department. Everyone supported each other and we had some good performances from Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Jonathan Foo to name a few. The guys performed when it matters most”, said Bishoo.
When quizzed about the upcoming Regional Super 50, Bishoo said that he is looking forward to a good tournament. “I am looking forward to perform with both bat and ball and help Guyana win the title. It’s a long time we haven’t tasted success in a one day tournament, we have a good chance this time but we have to play smart cricket”, he stated.
