The body which was found at the foreshore of the Atlantic Ocean, near Ruby, East Bank Essequibo around 13:00hrs on Thursday has been identified as Rafeek Mohamed; a man who neighbours say was a well known thief.
Mohamed, 38, of Lot 2 Drysdale Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, was discovered on the foreshore near Ruby, clad in a black vest and black three quarter pants.
He was barefooted and had been shot at close range to the head, with the bullet apparently entering through the left side and leaving a gaping exit wound on the right.
His body was identified around 11:00hrs yesterday by his reputed wife, Shanna, who bluntly refused to speak to this newspaper.
“Listen, my husband cannot come back if I speak to you,” the wife shouted before she disconnected the call.
Neighbours opined that Mohamed might have met his demise after he attempted to rob “the wrong guy.”
During a visit in Charlestown yesterday, this publication was told that Mohamed who was popularly called “Ravi” had lots of enemies and there are many people who wanted him dead.
Mohamed fathered three kids from his previous marriage. He had been living in Charlestown for the past four years with Shanna.
“They don’t talk with people. They does sell clothes but don’t ask me where they does get the clothes from,” a man, who refused to give his name said.
A woman said that Mohamed was placed before the court on numerous “break and enter” charges.
“He does go jail steady. He is an old crook. He does go all over and rob people. He does thief for a living.”
Kaieteur News understands that Mohamed was last seen on Tuesday entering his yard on a bicycle.
“Hear wah happen. The sister like she see the story in the newspaper and when she see the “Rebecca” and “Love” tattoo on his hand, she called the wife and they went straight to the funeral home,” a distant relative of the dead man said.
Investigations are ongoing.
