The Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) must be informed in writing about race meets, this was disclosed at a meeting held last Thursday between the GHRA and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony at the minister’s office. Among other items discussed were the present status of the GHRA proposed legislation and the racing dates for the rest of the year and early January 2014. However, Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club and Port Mourant Turf Club were absent.
A release from the GHRA stated that there was an understanding by the administrators of the various clubs on the following issues.
Where a race meeting has been called off because of inclement weather or other special circumstances, then the club concerned must apply in writing to the GHRA for a new date.
It was agreed recently, where a race meeting is called off by a club then that event should be run off after the race meetings already fixed, if it would, cause difficulty to any other club.
Where a club proposes to run off a race meeting on a date not allocated to that club, the club should apply in writing to the GHRA for a new date.
The GHRA is looking forward to the cooperation of the administrators of the various clubs and it must be made abundantly clear that the GHRA is not opposed to the running of race meetings by any club but the guidelines agreed upon must be followed.
