Multi-talented, Nekisha Roberts walks away with Race walking top prize
On Friday December 13 last, Soesdyke Secondary School student, Nekisha Roberts, joined several other beauties and competed in the Teen and Beauty Talent competition organized by her school and was eventually adjudged the winner and queen.
One day later, Nekisha stripped off her gown, donned sports gear and walked away with the first prize when the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) staged the 10K Last Lap Juniors race walk around the Soesdyke village, EBD. Tabela Gilkes finished in the second place, while Nykia Roberts cantered in shortly afterwards to close off the podium spots. Kevin George dominated the Boys’ category and he was followed by Jamal Clarke while Leslie Saul sealed off the final podium spot.
Consequently, the organizers were kept busy following the culmination of the event, distributing toys to the children in the community. The new beauty queen then delivered brief remarks at the ceremony and committed to the promotion of the sport in schools in the Soesdyke community. “I will also endeavour to be a good role model even as I represent my school with distinction,” exhorted Ms Roberts.
Meanwhile, the organizers benefitted from the input of corporate citizen, Hand in Hand Insurance Company as well as Minister of Public Service, Jennifer Westford.
