A fork lift operator was yesterday refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he made his first court appearance charged with the murder committed Sunday last, on a 42-year-old father of four.
Yesterday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Aniki Jones, a resident of Lamaha Springs, stood accused of murdering Carl Garnett on December 15. He was not required to plea since the matter was indictable.
According to Police Prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru, on the said date, at about 19:00 hours Garnett who was armed with a cutlass went to the home of the accused and fired several chops at him.
He said that a fight ensued between the two which left both parties injured. The two men were then taken into the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where the deceased succumbed as a result of the injuries received.
Mangru said that the accused admitted to inflicting the injuries, hence the charge was instituted.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on January 14, 2014.
