The Teachers’ Music Class of Berbice, which comprise several teachers being taught music, and coordinated by veteran Educator, Ms. Ruth Jaundoo, made a donation to the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) at Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam recently.
The donation was in thanks to the GTU for granting the group permission to use the GTU Hall for its classes and exams over the past months.
Ms. Jaundoo was accompanied by the members of the Regional Teachers’ Choir, including Mr. Bertie Carter.
“Today’s presentation is a little something that the music class wants to do to show appreciation for having been allowed, as teachers, to use the GTU hall for classes, as well as to write the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABSM) Exams—a London- based exam and it’s being used in preparation for teachers who are expected to soon deliver music in the classroom,” Ms. Jaundoo said.
She added that she did not want to give a cash donation, “because money tends to get lost in the larger picture, so we want to donate these sheet sets for the dormitories so when our teachers come from outlying areas to use that place, at least some basic facilities will be there for them.
Jaundoo expressed thanks to the GTU also on behalf of the local ABSM Representative, Daphne Rogers.
The current group of teachers was hand-selected for training. They are the pilot group. Training began in June of this year. Seven teachers already wrote the Grade One Exams and are awaiting the results.
A representative of the GTU expressed thanks for the donation of the sheets.
