Places in the championship game are at stake when the semifinals of the Sunburst Orange Juice sponsored,
Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) inaugural Under-17 championship comes off tomorrow at the Mackenzie Sports Club, Hard Court from 14:30hrs.
The smooth flow of the competition has been hampered by the inclement weather but preliminary round matches were completed on Saturday, thus the top four schools booking their respective semifinal slots.
They are top seed Mackenzie High, Linden Foundation Secondary, New Silvercity and Christianburg/Wismar.
In booking their place in the final four, Mackenzie High were led by their leading scorer Daniel Anthony, Allister Lewis and Tyrese Mitchell as they notched up five wins against the contesting schools; being triumphant against Linden Foundation 30-22, Wisburg 44-16, New Silvercity 27-11, Harmony 57-2 and Christianburg Wismar Secondary 13-12.
Their opponents are fourth seed New Silvercity whose best players are Wayne Wilson, Branley Griffith and Darrel Fleming. They recorded wins over Wisburg 41-17 and Harmony 29-19, but lost to Christianburg Wismar 23-19, Linden Foundation 30-25 and Mackenzie High 27-11.
The number two seed after the preliminary round was Linden Foundation Secondary who, through the likes of Isaiah Semple, Nigel Plowell, Dillon Pellew and Isaiah Haynes will face the third placed team Christianburg Wismar ‘Multi’ Secondary.
The Multi side which won the Linden Under-19 schools tournament earlier this year has among their best
players Dillon Patterson and Daniel Lee.
Linden Foundation secured wins over Christianburg/Wismar 23-19, Wisburg by walkover, New Silvercity 30-25 and Harmony 33-5, but lost to Mackenzie High 30-22.
The third ranked Christianburg/Wismar advanced with eight points as they won against Wisburg 40-7, Harmony by walkover and New Silvercity 30-10. They however lost against Linden Foundation 23-19 and Mackenzie High 13-12.
