Jadeshwar Doolchand has been elected President of the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) for the next two years when that entity held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday last.
Despite the heavy downpour that left many sections of the City under water, members of the volleyball community were determined that the business of the sport must go on, thus they converged at the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard Base, Ruimveldt, Georgetown and to elect a new body.

Proceedings were chaired by Mr. John Flores, Vice President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF).
Doolchand was elected to lead the entity, Jarryd Douglas was elected Vice President, Secretary is Ms. Shontell Maloney, Treasurer Ryan Briglall, Secretary/Treasurer Krystal Yan, Public Relations Officer Tiana Badley and Organising Secretary Ronald Smith.
The four Committee Members are Marlon Pearson, Satrohan Ramnarinre, Odile Broomes and Clarence Williams.
President Doolchand expressed gratitude and thanked those members for showing the faith in him to lead the DVA while urging all to work as a team by pooling ideas for the promotion and development of the sport.
The other executive members also expressed their commitment to work diligently as a cohesive unit. The new body will meet shortly to discuss and plan activities for the first quarter of 2014 and beyond.
