Digicel Guyana brought Christmas cheer to the children of the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre (PRRC) over the weekend when they were given a treat, complete with Santa Claus and his elves.
The more than 70 children were given toys and other goodies for the holiday season through the Digicel Sponsored Christmas party held annually.
This event is highly anticipated by the children of the Centre, said Director, Ms. Cynthia Massay, who remarked that “Digicel is part of our family here at the PRRC, so having our family over at Christmas time is a very joyous thing…we really enjoy Digicel’s company at this special time of year.”
Events and Sponsorship Manager of the telephone company, Gavin Hope noted that “Over the past five (5) years Digicel has been a part of Christmas Cheer with PRRC; it has been nothing but joy and pleasure to bring laughter and happiness to the children at the PRRC. The children make it a wonderful Christmas for us each year; the joy of the season is to see those beautiful smiles on their faces.”
Digicel said as part of its ‘Brighten Someone’s Christmas’ are in place to share Christmas cheer with children across Guyana. Already, visits were made to Regions One, Two, Seven, and 10.
The first leg got underway in Arakaka and Baramita in Region One earlier this month.
Hundreds of children came out to be treated with gifts for Christmas.
At that event the children received school equipment consisting of computers, backpacks and lunch kits, in preparation for the new school term; January 2014.
Receiving these items on behalf of the Arakaka Secondary School was Headmistress, Ms. Bibi Samad.
Ms. Samad had noted that the donation of the computers comes at an important junction, since they will give her and her staff a better chance of adding positively to the school’s curriculum. “Technology is something that will give our students a great opportunity to learn about the world and upgrade themselves, this is a very important thing for us and we thank Digicel for thinking about us.”
Ms. Samad has been Headmistress at the school for the past eight years.
Similarly, receiving the donation at Baramita Primary School, Headmaster, Mr. Bissoonauth Bacchus thanked Digicel for its generous donation. “We are extremely pleased that Digicel has travelled so far to come and spread Christmas cheer with us in Baramita, we appreciate this donation of the computers which will go a far way in helping our students and teachers develop their skills.” Mr. Bissoonauth has been Headmaster of the school for the past 14 years.
