Two days of fistic fury concluded yesterday morning and boxing buffs were treated to several interesting bouts when the curtains came down on the 3rd edition of the GBA/DDL Gatorade/Pepsi/Diamond Mineral Water, Under 16 Boxing Championship at the Andrew Lewis Boxing Gym yesterday afternoon.
Kevin Mulling (HEBG) lost his 55-59lbs bout against Jamie Kellman (YA) but received some measure of comfort after receiving a special prize for being the youngest boxer on show.
Isaiah Moore (HEBG) was once again in winners’ row when he outpointed his gym mate, Kevon Mulling to take the 75-79 lbs title and was eventually voted best boxer by dint of a sterling display of boxing skill.
On a day when most of the bouts were evenly matched, Akeem Mounter (EBG) outpunched Sheldon Bowen (BGB) and forced the referee to call a halt to their 140-150 lbs contest in 40secs of the third stanza, while Kurt Allicock (HEBG) followed suit with a first round stoppage over his gym mate, Roy Samuels at the end of the first stanza of their 90-94lbs affair.
Osaiah Barker (YABG) dropped a points decision to Delroy Allicock (EBG). The two Doprados of the Bartica Golden Boys (BGB), Stevie and Steven, were matched against each other in the 110-114lbs class and the former pugilist won on points moments before Odeny Moore defeated his gym mate and namesake, Christopher, on points.
Shaquile Wright (EBG) also defeated Stefon Edwards (HEBG) on points in their 85-89lbs shindig and Zeggie Edwards (BGB) overcame his gym mate, Tariq Looknauth jnr, on points. There was also one exhibition bout between Shaka Moore and Quincy Boyce.
