Dear Editor,
I am intrigued by statements allegedly made by Junior Minister Whittaker about flooding in Georgetown on November 27.After stating that Georgetown is under the management of the Mayor and City Council and observing that the majority of the councillors are either members or supporters of the )PNC/APNU, the Minister went on to say that “this grouping shamelessly refuses to ever accept responsibility for their mismanagement of the affairs of the City.” The Minister is also reported to have said that the Mayor and City Councillors must accept responsibility for the flooding and the destruction it caused. ( Kaieteur News December3)
In reflecting on the Minister’s pronouncements the question arose as to whether it would be in order to use the Minister’s template for the whole country since there was extensive flooding outside of Georgetown. The Minister’s offerings would then be amended by replacing “Georgetown” with “{Guyana” the “Mayor and City Councillors” with “the Government” and PNC/APNU with”PPP/Civic. and assign blame accordingly!
Additionally the Ministry of Local Government has been in the spotlight over the matter of the garbage MOU and Soobagate. Is it not time for a Different Interim Management Team at that Ministry?
