The St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church of Port Mourant last weekend received a donation of a musical instruments and a signboard via the efforts of the recently reformed St. Francis Youth Club and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
The Church received musical instruments which included a complete drum set, two guitars and an amplifier worth $175, 000 and an impressive welcome billboard at the cost of $40,000 compliments of Bakewell.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Hilbert Foster who recently spearheaded the resuscitation of the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Youth Club stated that the youths of the Church have committed themselves to returning it to its former glory. The instruments were donated by a club member who is a successful businessman but prefers to remain anonymous.
The youth club, which currently has a membership of twenty five youths and ten adults who serve as mentors and role models, would like to express gratitude to the musical instruments donor and Bakewell for their assistance.
The St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Youth Club, since its resuscitation last month, has been involved in several activities including an art competition for youths; monthly food hampers for senior citizens; formation of a church choir; and snacks for church members, essay competition for youths and assisting a 96 years old retired teacher with clothing and meals.
The youths have also launched a programme to present church members with gifts on their birthdays, while today, December 15th, over 300 toys will be presented to children at churches in New Amsterdam, Palmyra, Port Mourant, Black Bush Polder, Skeldon and Siparuta.
Other upcoming activities of the club are a feeding programme for orphans on
December 19th; presentation of essay prizes on Sunday 22nd; youth get-together on the 21st; Christmas Concert on the 22nd December, the presentation of Christmas gifts to every church member and the launching of the St. Francis Youth leaflet on Sunday 22nd December.
The youth club would also be hosting a monthly Television Programme from January 2014 on DTV-8 with sponsorship from Sterling Products, while the St. Francis Xavier Church Fair would be held on the 15th February, 2014 after an absence of over 30 years. (Leon Suseran)
