It is now official, the fourth edition of Guyana’s premiere body building show, Hugh Ross Classic, is set for Saturday March 29, 2014 at the National Cultural Centre, Homestretch and Mandela Avenues.
Unveiling plans for the competition yesterday was Chairman of the Hugh Ross Classic Committee, Mr. Hugh Ross, at the Water Chris International Hotel, Quamina Street, Georgetown.
Ross, who shared the head table with President of the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Keavon Bess, Organising Secretary Videsh Sookram and members of the HRC Committee stated that the show, which will be bigger and more attractive, will see athletes competing in six male and three female categories.
Bess in his remarks said that 2014 will be another exciting year for the sport in Guyana, while informing that athletes have already commenced preparations for HRC which contributes to the athletes getting in shape for higher levels of competition.
“We’ve already sanctioned the HRC for March; we’re fully on board and will be working along with them. All in all, I think the athletes and people of Guyana can expect a great show and I would urge all to come out and lend support.”
Ross emphasized that the event will be very pleasing to the viewing audience and the athletes. With female participation in the sport gradually improving, He noted that the HRC will be aiming to have three categories on the distaff side.
For the more hardcore competitors, he informed that they will compete in the female bodybuilding category (females who are of a more muscular body type). The Miss Figure category will be for athletes who are symmetrical and toned while the Miss Bikini contest will be for the softer and more feminine eye pleasing type of figure.
The male categories are, Bantamweight – up to 65kgs (143lbs), Lightweight – up to 70kgs (144-154lbs), Welterweight – up to 75kgs (155-165lbs), Light Middleweight – up to 80kgs (166-176lbs), Heavyweight (176 and over). The respective category winners will then compete in the overall when the winner will be crowned Mr. HRC 2014.
A number of corporate entities have already given their commitment to be on board including Banks DIH under their Malta Supreme brand, they have been on board from the inception of the completion, Fitness Express, Giftland OfficeMax and Mohammed’s Enterprise.
“I pledge once again on behalf of my team that we will promote an event that will be of major benefit to our athletes as well as very entertaining to our viewing audience.”
The first to third placed competitors will be rewarded with trophies and cash incentives while those placing fourth and fifth will receive medals. The category winners will also receive hampers while Mr. HRC 2014 will also be rewarded.
With respect to a guest poser, Ross informed that it is the intention of the HRC to secure an IFBB Professional male bodybuilder.
