Several corporate entities injected cash and other prizes in support of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club Xmas horserace meeting scheduled for Boxing Day, Thursday December 26, at their Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice location.
Turfites are gearing up for the excitement when the nation’s top jockeys compete in 8 exciting races with millions of dollars at stake. Yesterday morning, Torginol Paints Inc joined with several other
sponsors and injected some $300,000 that will be used by the promoters to accommodate the J3 & K event that will assure the winner of $150,000, while the second place finisher receives half that amount. There will also be lucrative monetary prizes for the3rd and 4th place finishers ($38,000 & $19,000).
Handing over this prize at Mr. Kennard’s office yesterday were Company Secretary (Torginol Paints Inc), Percival Boyce (jnr) and his Assistant PRO, Sharon Blackman. The former individual expressed delight at having been given the honour to support the event while pledging full support to the organizers for future events. Mr. Kennard was delighted by the show of support and expressed gratitude to his benefactor. The former Chief Justice said that the sport is dependent on the chivalry of the corporate community and as such he felt obliged to express his gratitude to those organizations that have supported the meet.
Other supporting entities include DDL, Ansa McAl Trading Co, Republic Bank, Neal & Massy (Guyana) Ltd, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Winston & George Baijnauth – Sawmillers, Digicel, Pomeroon Oil Mill, Nand Persaud & Co, Berbice Bridge Co. Inc, Gobin Agri Spares Center, Goodwood & Horse Shoe Racing Services, N. Mattai & Co, Ariel Enterprise, P & P Insurance Brokers, Kanhai Guyana Electrical Agency, Torginol Paints Inc, Gift Land Office Max and Kharag Family.
Meanwhile, the feature event will be contested among the 3 year old West Indian maiden and Guyanese bred horses over a distance of one mile. The winner and second place finisher will ride off with $600,000 and $500,000 respectively with lucrative prizes up to the 4th place finisher. The race among horses in the A & Lower category will also be contested over one mile with similar prizes for jockeys coming in first and second
There will also be 4 races, each over a distance of 6 furlongs in the J & Lower, G I & Lower, the D3 Maiden and E Lower and the 2 years old. These winners will also pocket lucrative purses.
The event is conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and all rules will apply. Owners of horses are reminded that they must pay at least $5,000 for each horse at the time of entry otherwise the horses’ names would not appear on the official programme thus debarring the horses’ participation. Entries close on Sunday, December 15 and late entry will not be accepted.
